About The Desiderata
The word “Desiderata” comes from the Latin meaning ‘desired things’.
The Desiderata was long thought to have been written in 1692, but this date was merely the foundation year of a Baltimore church where a copy of the poem was found.
The author was actually Max Ehrmann (1872–1945), an American. Ehrmann did not become known  until the 1970’s when his verse was published widely.
The verse had been authorised for publication without a copyright notice in the 1940’s, and so the copyright was forfeited because it was deemed to be in the public domain.
