About The Desiderata
The word “Desiderata” comes from the Latin meaning ‘desired things’.
The Desiderata was long believed to have been written in 1692, but this date was merely the foundation year of a Baltimore church where a copy of the poem was found.
The American author Max Ehrmann (1872–1945) was not well known in his lifetime, but he became renowned after the publication of his verse in the 1970’s.
The Desiderata verse was authorised for publication without a copyright notice in the 1940’s and consequently copyright was forfeited as it was deemed to be in the public domain.
