Go placidly amid the noise and haste and remember what peace there may be in silence
These lines come from the Desiderata verse.
About the ‘Desiderata’
The word “Desiderata” comes from the Latin meaning ‘desired things’.
The Desiderata was mistakenly believed to have been written in 1692 ….
But 1692 was merely the foundation date of the Baltimore church where a copy of the poem was found.
The verse is by the American writer Max Ehrmann (1872–1945) who was not well known in his lifetime.
He became reknowned after the general publication of this verse in the 1970’s.
The copyright on the verse was forfeited when it was authorised for publication in the 1940’s. The verse was published without a copyright notice, and therefore deemed to be in the public domain.
